This is helpful for users who are preparing for their exams, interviews, or professionals who would like to brush up on the fundamentals of Electric Traction.

If electrical energy is used for the process of moving any vehicle is electric traction. It is used in tramcars, trolleybuses, trains, diesel-electric vehicles, etc. The traction control is used to achieve the reduction of yawing moment reactions, maintain stability, provide optimum propulsion at all speeds, and reduce driver workload.

Torque management is a traction control system obtained by retarding ignition timing, reducing or cutting off fuel injection pulses to one or more cylinders, and increasing EGR flow. The minimum wear on the track, easy speed control, withstanding of large temporary loads, and a pollution-free environment is flow requirements of an ideal traction system.

Electric traction has many advantages as compared to other non-electrical systems of traction including steam traction. The electric traction system involves the use of electric energy at some stage or the other but a non-electric traction system doesn't involve the use of electrical energy at any stage.

The DC series motor, single-phase AC series motors, and three-phase induction motors are used for the traction purpose. The advantages of a traction control system are improved tractive force, less driver stress, high starting torque, absence of unbalanced forces, and lower center of gravity.
