This article lists 100 Reluctance Motor MCQs for engineering students. All the Reluctance Motor Questions & Answers given below include a hint and a link wherever possible to the relevant topic. This is helpful for users who are preparing for their exams, interviews, or professionals who would like to brush up on the fundamentals of Reluctance Motor.

The reluctance motor is a type of motor that depends on reluctance torque for its operation and it is a type of synchronous machine. The switched reluctance motor, variable reluctance motor, and synchronous reluctance motor are the type of reluctance motors.

The linear SRM and rotary SRM are the types of switched reluctance motors. The construction of switched reluctance motor is simple and starting torque is quite good. The switched reluctance motor has no windings or slip rings in the rotor and it can run at very high speed that is up to 30,000 rpm in hazardous atmospheres.

The four-quadrant operation is possible in switched reluctance motors with appropriate drive circuits. The advantages of switched reluctance motor are they are cost-effective, easy to maintain, has higher efficiency, have accurate speed control is possible, and has more power per unit weight and volume.

The brushes, permanent magnets, and commentators are absent in switched reluctance motors. The microcontroller-based operation control circuits, washing machines, weaving machinery, centrifugal pump, compressors, etc are the applications of the switched reluctance motors.

The combined reluctance and magnet alignment torque, field weakening capability, high inductance, high-speed capability, and high-temperature capability are the properties of a synchronous reluctance motor.
