This article lists 100 Shell Type Transformer MCQs for engineering students. All the Shell Type Transformer Questions & Answers given below include a hint and a link wherever possible to the relevant topic. This is helpful for users who are preparing for their exams, interviews, or professionals who would like to brush up on the fundamentals of Shell Type Transformer.

An electrical device that is designed to transfer power between the circuit within is a transformer. This device works on the principle of electromagnetic induction maintaining the frequency constant. Transformer designs are of  2 types namely core type and shell type.

In a core type, the winding is surrounded around the core and the core parts include 2-limbs and 2-yokes. Whereas in shell type/ rectangular type, the transformer core is surrounded around windings and the core parts of a shell type transformer include 3-limbs and 2yokes.

Iron core transformer losses are minimized in a shell-type transformer. The insulated substance of the shell-type transformer is paper. The disadvantage of the shell-type transformer includes difficulty in cooling and maintenance. The advantages of shell-type transformers include zero leakage, a perfect short circuit, and a good cooling system.

A shell-type transformer is applicable for low voltage and high output types of appliances.
